1997 Porsche 911 GT1
I built this for the upcoming "Gran Turismo 7". This is a complete game ready model, though the modeling process was more like VFX work as the model is all quads and able to be subdivided. It was built from scan data and photographs, and had to match the scan data perfectly and with no imperfections or pinching.
The blue planes on the model are used for a process called "stenciling." At render-time these planes determine areas on the geometry that can essentially be cut into and reshaped. Underneath the blue planes are geometries in red, which are the shapes that the surface will deform too. This reduces polycount and allows perfectly clean cutting on round surfaces. There are also several yellow planes, used for smaller details like bolts or screw-holes, through the same stenciling process.
